GRAS AL0003 1/4" & 1/2" Adjustable Microphone Holder, POM

Introduction

The GRAS AL0003 consists of 3 parts: a swivel head for mounting on tripods with a standard 1/4" UNC-20 thread and adapters for mounting a microphone set with 1/2" or 1/4" body diameter on the swivel head. Microphone sets with Microdot connector or integrated 5-pin LEMO connector do not fit.

The swivel head fits any tripod using a 1/4" UNC-20 male thread. The 1/2" adapter can then be mounted on the swivel head using the 1/4" thread at the bottom of the adapter.

To mount a 1/2" microphone set in the 1/2" adapter, place the cable in the groove on the adapter and slide the microphone set back until it is held at the grommet (BNC) or union nut (LEMO) of the cable connector.

To mount a 1/4" microphone, fit the 1/4" adapter into the1/2” adapter with the grooves aligned to make place for the cable and slide the microphone set back and into the adapter.

For both cases, 1/2" and 1/4", run the cable inside the adapter as far as possible for minimum acoustical influence.

Note: Regarding BNC, notice that the connector grommet is the attach point i.e. the installation assumes that GRAS cables are used. Other brand of BNC cables may use a a grommet which does not fit.

Alternatives

Consider the stainless steel microphone holders GRAS AL0013 and RA0096 for 1/4" or AL0012 and RA0093 for 1/2" microphone sets (diameter of the preamplifier).
